Hwang In Youp and Hyeri Reunite in 'Dream to You,' Where a Reunion Matters More Than the School Uniform Buzz
Hwang In Youp and Hyeri headline ENA's new romance drama Dream to You, a heartfelt reunion story about first love, unfinished dreams, and second chances.
Actors Hwang In Youp and Hyeri are joining forces in ENA's new Monday–Tuesday romantic comedy Dream to You. While comments about appearing in school uniforms attracted headlines during the production presentation, the drama's real focus is the emotional reunion of two people confronting unfinished dreams and lingering feelings 15 years after their first love.
Ahead of its July 13 premiere, the cast and creative team introduced the series at a production presentation in Seoul. Directed by Yoo Sun Dong, the drama follows acclaimed film director Woo Soo Bin and reporter Joo Yi Jae, whose unexpected reunion rekindles memories of the past while forcing them to confront the different paths their lives have taken.
Much of the media attention centered on the actors' school-uniform scenes. Hwang In Youp described this project as likely being his final student-role appearance, but emphasized that the strength of the script and the romantic-comedy genre made the role impossible to turn down. Hyeri admitted she had some concerns before filming but felt the youthful atmosphere translated naturally on screen and even left the door open to wearing a school uniform again if the right project came along.
Although the two actors responded differently, both highlighted that the student sequences exist to strengthen the story's emotional continuity rather than serve as a novelty. The past and present are closely intertwined, allowing viewers to understand how the characters have changed over the years.
At its core, Dream to You is a reunion romance. Woo Soo Bin has achieved the dream he once pursued, while Joo Yi Jae has placed her own aspirations aside to cope with everyday reality. Their reunion becomes an opportunity to revisit both an unfinished film project and the emotions they never fully resolved, blending romance with themes of ambition, regret, healing, and second chances.
Both leads also praised their on-screen chemistry during the presentation. Their relationship is expected to be a defining element of the series, as the emotional evolution between the characters will likely determine how audiences respond once the drama begins airing.
The production also brings together notable creative talent. Director Yoo Sun Dong, known for balancing action and emotion, collaborates with writer Jung Eun Bi, whose previous works have explored heartfelt fantasy and romance. Together, they aim to deliver a romantic comedy that balances warmth, humor, and emotional depth.
Ultimately, the drama's greatest appeal may not be the conversation surrounding school uniforms, but whether Hwang In Youp and Hyeri can convincingly connect the innocence of adolescence with the realities of adulthood. As the series premieres, viewers will likely judge it less by promotional talking points than by the authenticity of its characters' emotional journey.
